Jeremiah was a fly-fisherman, apparently.
Unbeknownst to most of the world, I’d bet, Cory Wells, the voice and guitarist of Three Dog Night (you know, the ’60s hit “Joy the World”), has held an IGFA fly-rod record since 1981. That’s quite a notch on Wells’ resume of sell-out concerts, top 10 hits, and rock and roll regalia.
Wayne Shaw of the San Luis Obispo Tribune smoked Wells out and found a white bass connoisseur with a penchant for light tippets.
Unfortunately, Wells’ 27-year rein as the 8-pound class white bass king (his fish weighed in at 3.8, although he says it may have lost some weight before it was officially certified) appear to be ending as a Springfield, Mo., angler pulled a 3+-pound lunker out of Bull Shoals.
“I just love fly fishing for white bass,” Wells told Shaw. “Some days they don’t hit at all no matter what you put out there. Other days you can’t keep them off.”
